Mirrors

Justin Timberlake

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: A love song that takes the scenic route. The big chorus gets you in the door, but the extended outro is where the harmonies and rhythm really get room to play.

Coastin

Readyrock, Inc.

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: A quick hip-hop cut with a relaxed stride. The flow stays easy and unhurried, like a ride you take just to see where the road goes.

California

DJ Quik

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: DJ Quik makes the case for California through the groove alone. The beat has that easy West Coast bounce, and his delivery sounds right at home in it.

Barangrill (Live At Capitol Studios / 2014)

Robert Glasper

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: Glasper’s trio takes Joni Mitchell’s song into a live jazz setting. Listen for how the piano phrases leave room for the bass and drums to answer.

Suddenly

Adriana Evans

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: Evans lets the melody do the talking. Her warm, easy phrasing gives this soul cut the intimacy of a conversation at the next table.

Say Something

Karen Harding

overlooked-tracksVerified curator recommends

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: A house groove with a clear demand: speak up. Harding’s vocal gives the hook its urgency, and the beat turns that impatience into a reason to move.

El Condor Pasa (If I Could)

Simon & Garfunkel

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: An Andean melody and soft harmonies carry a quiet wish for freedom. The voices leave space for the instrumental line to say as much as the words.

Good For Me

Above & Beyond

overlooked-tracksVerified curator recommends

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: The Tri-State version lets the vocal float over a slow swell of sound. It’s the moment in the set when the room seems to get a little quieter.

Living In Circles

Tranquillo

overlooked-tracksVerified curator recommends

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: A mellow groove that makes repetition feel inviting. Give it a minute and see what catches your ear the second time around.

Your Love Is Mine

The New Mastersounds

Recommendation note: Kenny ChibaVerified curator: A pocket of soul and funk with an easy sway. The rhythm section keeps the song moving while the vocal takes its sweet time.
