"People Are Strange" was released in 1967, when I was in the sixth or seventh grade. Even then, I was pretty musically hip, thanks largely to my older brother, who was a recording engineer in New York City. I listened to WNEW-FM, discovering artists like Richie Havens through DJ Alison Steele, but I also tuned in to Cousin Brucie on WABC-AM. That's where I first heard "People Are Strange," and it became etched in my memory with its haunting melody, unforgettable harmonies, and distinctive licks
